Winter Break

Florida A&M University will observe its winter break during the period of Tuesday, December 24, 2013 through Wednesday, January 1, 2014.  The university will officially close at 5 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013.  FAMU will reopen on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 8 a.m.

Residence halls will open at 9 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2014.  Classes will begin on Monday, January 6, 2014.

24/7 For Finals!

Library Hours 24/7 through December 13, 2013

To assist you with successfully completing final assignments and final exams, in addition to the regularly scheduled 24/5, Coleman Library will also remain open 24 hours on Friday, December 6, Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8.

Thanksgiving Hours & Extended Hours During Finals Week!

University Libraries will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday from Thursday the 28th through Saturday the 30. Coleman library will reopen on Sunday, December 1st at 1 pm and be open 24/7, that's right! 24/7 until Friday December 13 at 6 pm.

Shuchun (Susan) Liang Wins FHSLA Conference Logo Contest!

Congratulations go to Shuchun (Susan) Liang, Head of the Science Research Center Library. Her logo submission was selected to be used for the FHSLA (Florida Health Sciences Library Association) 2014 Meeting that will be held April 3-4, 2014 at the Rosen College of Hospitality Management in Orlando.

In exchange for designing the 2014 logo, she will receive free full registration to the annual meeting, which includes the continuing education course “The Evolving Librarian: Responding to Changes in the Workplace and Healthcare” taught by Michele Kraft, aka “The Krafty Librarian.”

Great American Smoke-Out

            

                  
The American Cancer Society marks the Great American Smokeout on the third Thursday of November each year by encouraging smokers to use the date to make a plan to quit, or to plan in advance and quit smoking that day.

This event represents a collaboration between The School of Allied Health Sciences, Big Bend AHEC, American Cancer Society , and the American Lung Association.  

The Smokeout Day at FAMU will be held on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Noon on the Set. So mark your calendar and make plans to join us!

Exciting Discovery of First African-American Female Novelist


 
It was recently reported that the writer of the bestseller, The Bondswoman's Narrative, was a former slave named Hannah Bond. It was written in 1858 which makes her the first African-American female novelist.
